Myths About Weight-Loss: A Lack of Will Power
If you struggle with body image and over- or under-eating, do you feel like you keep 'failing' at your weight-loss attempts over and over again because of a lack of willpower?
Well, let me tell you something.
Over- and under-eaters often exhibit and EXCEPTIONAL amount of will power, far more than any normal eater does.
But that is one of the reasons as to why you might be struggling.
If you feel like you've failed due to a lack of willpower, you'll probably say something like 'I'll start again tomorrow'. That, is not a lack of willpower. That is an overload of willpower and determination, but coming from a place of fear and low self-esteem. That is a belief that weight-loss and trying again and again and again with it is the only way to fix what you're struggling with.
But what would happen if instead, you channeled that willpower into a place of mental recovery? What if you asked for help from someone else (and not Google or weight watchers)? What if you got counselling, therapy or attended OA meetings regularly? What if you felt content and happy with your life?
What would you do with your time that would otherwise be spent on disordered eating behaviours? You could save up for a holiday. You could go to events and make some more friends. You could start a blog. You could pick up an instrument. You could study a new subject. You could meditate.
Channel your willpower and create something incredible - you are much, much stronger than you think!
