Affirmations: The What and The Why
I speak a lot on Instagram about my affirmations and often share my own with you. But I also get a lot of questions about what they are exactly and what they're for; hence, this blog post was born. If you have any more questions feel free to drop me a message and I'll update this blog post with the answer too.
In short, affirmations are statements about your ideal self and your ideal world. They are read as if they are already true in order to manifest your dreams into a reality. For example, if you are often full of fear but don't wish to be, then one of your affirmations may be 'I am free of fear and I trust in the universe'. Or if you often have worries about finance and income, then one of your affirmations may be 'I am worthy of living in abundance', 'money flows easily to me' or 'I am open to new money coming into my life in ways I could not have imagined or expected'.
As Deepak Chopra said, 'there is nothing other than energy and information [in the universe]. A flower, a rainbow, a tree, a human body, when broken down to their essential components, are energy and information. The only difference between you and a tree is the informational and energy content of your respective bodies'.
However humans, because of our nervous system, can become aware of this information and energy and experience life through thoughts, emotions, memories and so on. We therefore also have the ability to consciously change the energy and information in our bodies. And through changing this content of our bodies, we can in turn influence the world around it and manifest our dreams into that surrounding environment. 'Whatever you put your attention on will grow stronger in your life. Whatever you take your attention away from will wither, disintegrate and disappear'. This attention is in the present. Intention however is in the future, and works in conjunction with present attention in order to manifest that intention. You may need to re-read that a few times for it to sink in.
Learn how to become fully present, especially so when reading your affirmations. Remember, this is attention. You can become fully present by solely focusing on your sense. What can you see? What can you hear? What can you taste? What can you smell? What can you feel? Bring your focus to the environment around you as well as to the sensations in your body. And then read your affirmations, believing in them fully, experiencing them as something in the present moment.
I personally turn to affirmations if a difficult situation or a feeling of unease comes up in my life. I read my affirmations once in the morning and once before bed and tend to read the same ones daily for at least a month, to give them time to sink into my mind when it's conscious and unconscious. Over time, using both attention (a focus on the present) and intention (a focus on the future), these affirmations manifest into a reality.
I hope that this blog has been useful, and that affirmations help you as they have helped me. Remember to stick at it! Love, Ally x
