Protein-Packed Vegan Chocolate Orange Pots
If you love chocolate mousse and you love chocolate orange even more, this is a dessert for you! If you’re not a fan of chocolate orange though, fear not, because you can swap the orange out for anything else like mint, chilli, ginger, salted caramel… you name it, or leave it out entirely and have the chocolate as it is.
You only need a blender and a small bowl to make these, and a grater if you’re using orange for the flavouring. It’s pretty much as simple as whack it all in and mix until combined! What a dream.
These chocolate pots have an ingredient in them that might make you freak out a tiny bit, especially if you aren’t vegan or used to cooking with it. Silken tofu is what I’m talking about - but don’t worry, you can’t actually taste it at all. All you can taste is a super creamy, super smooth chocolate pot that has just the right amount of sweetness to it. Using tofu in this recipe also means that these little pots of heaven are packed with protein, so it’s a perfect dessert for getting some extra nutrition in along with the enjoyment of the chocolate.
Is your mouth watering yet? Well, if you’re ready to get creating, let’s go go go!
Ingredients - makes 3-4 pots:
90g dark chocolate (I used Divine), broken into squares
290g silken tofu (I used Clearspring)
6 tbsp maple syrup
The zest from one whole orange (or from two limes, or 1/2 tsp chilli flakes, or 1/4 tsp peppermint extract, or 1 tbsp coconut sugar, or anything else that you’d like to use instead of the orange. Taste test as you go and add more of your chosen ingredients when necessary).
A pinch of salt
2 tbsp your favourite granola - I used Perfect Provender
3-4 squares of your favourite chocolate - I used Loving Earth
1. In a small, microwave safe bowl, melt the chocolate, mixing it every 20-30 seconds to prevent burning.
2. In a blender, add in all of the chocolate pot ingredients except the melted chocolate. Once everything is combined, keep the blender on and pour in the melted chocolate so that it combines almost instantly.
3. Pour the mixture into pots straight away. I used Nespresso glasses for mine!
4. Top the pots with your toppings of choice. Chill in the fridge for at least half an hour before serving. If you’re eating these at a later date, they should still be kept in the fridge and will last for about 3 days. Enjoy!
