Books To Take You Further
My most loved part of the day is golden hour; a time when I know I should stop working and start winding down, preparing my body for rest and rejuvenation over night before rising with the sun once more. Keeping my body and schedule aligned with nature's daily cycle is vital to me, and expanding my mind and soul through reading fits right into it. Every morning, and every evening. I've always loved learning about spirituality whether it's my own journey or that of someone else's, and so the only books I own are based around that or around mental growth and bettering yourself.
Having read so many of these books and grown from what's written inside each one, I began sharing my favourite pages and paragraphs with all of you online. It wasn't long before I had requests coming in for a blog post on my favourite books; so here it is.
This is a list, in no particular order, of my most loved books on spirituality, empowerment and personal growth.
1. Journey Into Now | Leonard Jacobson
I adore this book. I couldn't put it down! It's about focusing in on the present moment and allowing God (or in my case a higher power) to guide you. Jacobson speaks a lot about God throughout the book but if you aren't religious you won't be put off by this, as God can mean someone or something different to everyone. He also includes multiple stories on awakenings from people he's met or worked closely with, which I found fascinating to read.
2. Moonlight Gratitude | Emily Silva
This isn't a book that you'll spend more than a minute reading per day, but is still one that I will most likely never go a day without reading. There is a short paragraph for every day of the year, written to be read just before bed, and I've always found that most of them are surprisingly relevant to the day's events which sometimes freaks me out a bit - in a good way. They help me to settle my mind and let go, creating space for the rest that is needed overnight.
3. The Book of Secrets | Deepak Chopra
I generally find that I need to focus a bit more to read this book, but that doesn't mean that I love it any less. I'm only halfway through it but I've already learned so much, and I particularly like the astrology aspect to it and focusing in on life at a far smaller, and yet impactful, level.
4. The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success | Deepak Chopra
I have to admit that when I really got into buying books on spirituality I went on a bit of a Chopra shopping spree. This was the first one of his books I bought and is my favourite out of them all. It's small, to the point, easy to read, and quick to implement the teachings into your life. Despite it's size compared to other books, it has an incredible amount of value within its pages and I'd recommend it to everyone.
5. A Course In Miracles | Helen Schucman & William Thetford
I was kindly gifted this book by my friend Maria, and wow, it's huge. There is so much in this book! I'm only about 60 pages in and I'm loving every part of it so far. It makes me think about my past, present and future, and it inspires me to write more myself and grow further in my spiritual journey.
6. The Mastery of Love | don Miguel Ruiz
This book is all about love and relationships, both with yourself and with others. Ruiz covers a lot about fear-based beliefs, the need to control, forgiveness, healing from the past, and turning in towards yourself to heal as opposed to struggling against that which you can't change. It's a perfect size too to take anywhere, which is always a bonus!
7. The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying | Sogyal Rinpoche
I’ve only just started reading this book, but I love it so much already. It’s all about how we think about life and death and how we care for the dying and the dead. I have the 25th anniversary edition which I would recommend as it’s the most recent.
8. Calm | Fearne Cotton
I was given this as a gift on my birthday and wasn’t sure what to expect, as many authors of the books I already owned were spiritual teachers, scientists or people whom I’d never heard of before. However this book has so many beautiful tips inside that can be easily built into your life to create a calmer way of thinking, doing and living. There is also space inside for you to write things down when prompted, which really helped me get the most out of the book and Fearne’s ideas.
I know you will enjoy these books as much as I have if books on spirituality are something you love to grow and learn from. If you buy any for yourself or a friend, let me know your thoughts over on Instagram so I can share it! This community is beautiful, and I can't wait to see you all grow even more.
